Spring 2021 Underdogs Who Made Better

I followed several Division 3 women’s volleyball squads just last spring, focusing primarily on Great Lakes and Central Region squads. The American Rivers Conference was very interesting. Coe, Wartburg and Loras battled it out hard all season. On the last day of the spring season, Wartburg needed to beat Nebraska Wesleyan on the road to tie Coe, who had already clinched at least a share of the ARC title. Nebraska Wesleyan took Wartburg to a 5th and deciding set before the Iowa squad got the win.

Followed ARC softball as well. Luther-IA and Buena Vista made somewhat unexpected deep runs in the conference tournament.

(I must admit, I played the clarinet in HS band when it spent a week doing field drill competing in Iowa the summer of my JR year–that was definitely the best summer of the 4 hands down-explains why I like Iowa as much as I do.)

I've been a clarinet player for more than 40 years and I could tell all kinds of funny band stories. I also follow women's volleyball and women's softball a lot.
